C’est une pipe (It is a pipe)

The picture is an image of a pipe. Magritte’s famous painting was also an image of a pipe. The caption at the bottom stated that it was not, but it was. Even the caption itself went to further our belief that it was a picture of a pipe. The point was that it was not physically a pipe, only a 2D representation, recognizable because of a visual likeness.

My pipe is recognizable because of a cultural likeness. We can read; we can recognize the reference to Magritte’s pipe, and so we can recognize the pipe.
